London’s Wembley Stadium has specific plans to ensure that Taylor Swift‘s The Eras Tour concerts are going smoothly and safely.
“The safety and security of fans at Wembley Stadium is of the utmost importance,” read a statement on the venue’s website. “We are working closely with the police, the Safety Advisory Group, and the relevant authorities to ensure that the stadium’s safety regulations are up to the highest standards.”
Swift, 34, will perform five concerts at Wembley between Thursday, August 15, and Tuesday, August 20; his first shows since canceling a performance in Vienna following the failed terrorist attack.
In addition to cooperating with the local police, Wembley also has a “restricted bag policy” where guests cannot bring a bag larger than 11x8x8 (A4 size). Additionally, only ticket holders are allowed inside the stadium.
“No one is allowed to stand outside any entrance or on the Olympic steps in front of the stadium,” the website reads, adding that there will be no outside viewing areas. “Anyone who hangs outside the stadium will be escorted by the guards.”
The local police are also monitoring the situation.
“London hosts many high-profile events each year with millions of visitors enjoying a safe and enjoyable experience,” a spokesperson for the city’s Metropolitan Police said in a statement on Thursday, August 8. “The Met works closely with local security teams and other partners to ensure appropriate security and policing arrangements are in place.”
Swift was scheduled to perform three concerts at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna earlier this week. All three shows were canceled and refunded after an alleged terrorist plot.
“For Taylor Swift The Eras Tour The Vienna shows have been canceled due to government officials’ confirmation of a planned terrorist attack,” concert organizers Barracuda Music wrote in a statement on Wednesday, August 7. “With government officials’ confirmation of a planned terrorist attack at the Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel these three scheduled concerts for everyone’s safety.”
Earlier that day, Vienna police arrested two men on suspicion of planning a violent attack on the show. According to the press conference, officials believe the 19-year-old suspect reportedly pledged allegiance to ISIS and had a large amount of chemicals in his home. The third suspect was arrested on Friday, August 10.
Swift and her team haven’t talked about the situation, but the pop star has previously called it her “biggest fear.”
“After the Manchester Arena bombing and the Vegas concert shooting, I was very scared to tour this time because I didn’t know how we were going to keep 3 million fans safe for seven months,” he wrote in a 2019 letter. Elle. “[My team and I put] a large amount of planning, cost and effort [into] to keep my followers safe.”
Swift added at the time, “My fear of violence has continued into my personal life. I carry QuikClot military-grade bandages, for gunshot or stab wounds.”
