There was only one person there Tara Davis-Woodhall she wanted to celebrate her Olympic medal with him – and that’s her husband, Hunter Woodhall.
Tara, 25, won gold in the women’s long jump final on Thursday, August 8, sprinting to find Hunter, 25, in the Stade de France bleachers for a warm hug.
“It was a relief and it was a ‘final’ moment,” Tara joked to NBC hosts later Thursday. “I just looked into his eyes and didn’t know where I was. I almost passed out for a second and you just made this moment so special. “
The victory marked Tara’s first Olympic victory, which she noted felt “surreal.”
“I dreamed of this moment and I kept saying ‘808, that’s the day I win the Olympics,’ I wrote it all over,” thought the track and field player. “And when I found out I was jumping at 8:08 pm — that was just a sign from God! These are some angel numbers. “
He continued, “It’s like I don’t believe it, but I do.” I worked hard this season to get here. Going undefeated was one of my goals and I said to myself, ‘No one is going to finish me this year’ and I put something as far away as no one can touch.
Tara’s appearance in Paris was her second Olympics, but her first medal. As he prepared for gold, Hunter had been his No. 1 fan.
“Tomorrow he will compete in the Olympics. I am humbled by you. You fought hard to give yourself a chance,” he said on Instagram on Wednesday, August 7. “You inspired many with your authenticity. To show that it’s OK to struggle, it’s OK not to stay OK.”
Hunter added, “Throughout everything you continued to fight for your dream. No one has worked harder than this. No one has been disciplined. You inspire me every day to be great. Tomorrow is your moment. Enjoy it all. You are right ❤️.”
Hunter’s turn will come later this month during the Paralympic Games. He competes in the men’s T62 400m race, where he finished third in the 2020 event.
“We’ll be back,” Tara quipped Thursday when asked about Hunter’s chance in the spotlight. “The Olympic season does not end here. We have the Paralympics in two weeks; make sure you guys are watching [and] listen. Hunter is going to do something crazy.”
