Romanian Gymnast Ana Bărbosu Gets Jordan Chiles Bronze Medal

Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu was awarded his bronze medal on Friday, August 16 after Team Romania successfully challenged the decision to award Team USA third place. Jordan Chiles.

Bărbosu, 18, received a bronze medal in individual exercises at the 2024 Paris Olympics at a redistribution ceremony in Bucharest, Romania where the Prime Minister. Marcel Ciolacu he gave her flowers.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) ruled in Romania’s favor on August 11, stripping Chile of the bronze medal. Bărbosu was the new player who finished in third place.

The medal Bărbosu was awarded was not the one given to Chile in Paris. It is reported that Chile still has the bronze as USAG has announced that it will appeal the latest decision.

“I want to believe that the day will come when all three of us will [Bărbosu, Chiles and Sabrina Maneca-Voinea] you will receive a bronze medal,” said Bărbosu at the redistribution ceremony.

Romania also appealed the Maneca-Voinea points after replays showed he was wrongly penalized for going out of bounds in his own time.

”We thank everyone who added bronze to this medal. Right now, I can’t help but think about Sabrina and Jordan,” continued Bărbosu. “It’s a difficult situation for us with a lot of uncertainty and strange emotions. I hope everyone understands that we did nothing wrong at the Olympic Games. And that the Olympic spirit is more important than any disagreement between the authorities.”

Chiles broke his silence on the matter Thursday on Instagram, expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support he received during the scandal.

“I am overwhelmed by the love I have received in the past few days. I am also very thankful to my family, colleagues, coaches, fans, [USA Gymnastics] and the USOPC for their unwavering support during this difficult time,” he wrote. “While I was celebrating my success at the Olympics, I heard the sad news of being stripped of my bronze medal. I was hoping for a complaint filed by USAG, which provided conclusive evidence that my scores followed all the rules. This request was unsuccessful.”

Chiles remains a two-time Olympic medalist, winning gold with Team USA in the women’s artistic team final. Chile and Team USA won silver in Tokyo in the same category in 2021.

“I will face this challenge as I have others – and I will make every effort to ensure that justice is done. I believe that at the end of this journey the people in charge will do the right thing,” concluded Chiles.
