Production of the Polestar 3 continues in the US

Electric car company Polestar has begun production of the Polestar 3 in South Carolina. Polestar 3 cars from this location are made for US and European buyers. Volvo’s first SUV is due to go into production in 2023, but the switch to a US manufacturing facility will help it avoid heavy import duties on EVs at its plant in Chengdu, China.
“Producing the Polestar 3 in the USA is an important step for us,” said Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath. “Now we offer customers in America an electric SUV made in America. Sending South Carolina produced Polestar 3 to Europe will strengthen our business in a wider area.”
Earlier this year, the Biden administration sharply increased the cost of importing electric vehicles from China. The White House’s move to quadruple tariffs on Chinese-made EVs was intended to “protect American manufacturers.” Even before that change was announced, we would have liked to have Polestar 3 production moved to South Carolina. On the other hand, it will be produced at the company’s plant in South Korea when production begins in mid-2025.
