Horacio Zeballos produced an effective masterclass in partnership with Marcel Granollers in their second ATP Masters 1000 title of the year in Montreal on Monday.

The Argentinian dropped just one point in his entire game, winning 21St straight service point in the champion’s spot to give Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury their second consecutive Omnium Banque Nationale par Rogers final following a 6-2, 7-6(4) victory.

“This was our first tournament together in five years, so it’s a very important tournament for us and it means a lot to win this title,” said Zeballos. “It was a pleasure to play in front of this great crowd.”

Granollers said, “Rajeev and Joe are one of the biggest teams on the tour and it’s very difficult to play against them. But we are very happy with the way we played today. We are very happy with the year with two Masters 1000s.”

Granollers and Zeballos won the Montreal title five years ago (beating Ram and Salisbury en route to the semi-finals) in their first tournament as a team.

In addition to winning the Rome title during clay skating, Granollers and Zeballos also reached the final in Miami.

The Spanish-Argentinian pair earned two breaks in the opening set, including one in the seventh game that had a point-of-the-year rivalry that had teams chasing from all corners of the court (see below).

In a tight second set Salisbury rallied from 0/40 at 5-all. In the break, all it took was a Zeballos return over Salisbury’s head to give the eventual champions a decisive 5/4 break, where Zeballos scored his 20th and 21st points in a row to clinch the title. and extend his team’s lead over the PIF ATP Live Doubles Team Rankings.
