Loeffler Angry Over Controversial Bohachuk Loss

Dethroned WBC junior middleweight champion Serhii Bohachuk, the promoter of Tom Loeffler, was furious that his fighter lost a 12-round majority decision to Vergil Ortiz Jr. (22-0, 21 KOs) on Saturday night at Michelob Ulratra Arena in Las Vegas. .
Loeffler felt that Bohachuk (24-2, 23 KOs) did more than enough to earn the decision with two knockouts over Vergil in the first and eighth rounds, in addition to the relentless pressure he put on his opponent.
Scoring Points
Two judges called Vergil Jr. The fight was scored 113-113, 114-112, and 114-112.
As Loeffler points out, he saw it as a clear victory for Bohachuk, and everything he read on social media after the fight tonight confirmed his opinion that his boy won.
Ortiz Jr., 26, looked battered at the end, suffering a bloodied and badly swollen nose, as well as a cut over his left eye. Both of Vergil Jr’s cheeks were red and swollen from the many heavy shots Bohachuk had taken in the fight.
Ortiz Jr. was hit hard and had to switch to Plan B by punching in rounds 9 through 12 to avoid being knocked out by Bohachuk.
“Hometown Decisions Need to Stop”
“Vergil Ortiz Jr. showed he’s a true champion going twelve rounds against Serhii Bohachuk,” Tom Loeffler said at the post-fight press conference following Bohachuk’s loss to Vergil Ortiz Jr. on Saturday night.
“We will go back to the hotel to celebrate because Serhii knows he is a champion. This is one of the contenders for Fight for the Year. These rural decisions must end. It’s for the benefit of the game,” said Loeffler.
If a rematch between Vergil and Bohachuk could happen, it would be great because there are so many fans who are not happy with the results of the contest. It would look bad on Vergil Jr’s side if he takes his decision win as confirmation that he won in the eyes of the fans because many see him as a loser.
“If one judge had a draw, Bohashuk should keep his title,” said Loeffler. “If you look at social media, his value has increased so much that he still retains his title. His Excellency appeared after the battle saying he was looking for him [Bohachuk] in one of his future shows.”
Honorable can make a second fight between Vergil Jr and Bohachuk happen. It would be great for one of his events in the Riyadh Season. It would be up to Vergil if he wants to fight Bohachuk again because he might feel like he doesn’t want to push his luck with a second fight.
Callback and WBC Support
Mauricio Sulaiman of WBC said he will support Bohachuk 100% as if he is still their champion,” said Loeffler. “So, his stock went up. Naturally, Vergil Ortiz’s stock has risen significantly, but he doesn’t agree with the decision. “
If WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman orders a rematch, Vergil may be motivated to fight Bohachuk again. However, if he still hopes that a fight with Terence Crawford will happen, he may not want to risk a rematch.
“All the documents I found and everything I read on social media say that Bohachuk won that fight. “So for us, we feel like he’s still a champion and he won that fight and he still deserves to be considered a champion,” said Loeffler.
