Playing in his eighth tour singles final, Sebastian Korda won his second title at the Mubadala Citi DC Open with a decisive 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 victory.

In becoming the first American man to win the Washington title since Andy Roddick in 2007, the home favorite matched his father, Petr Korda, who won the DC title in 1992. on the ATP Tour.

Looking ahead, the win moved Korda up to No. 18 in the PIF ATP Rankings on Monday.

After a two-hour rain delay and a three-set women’s final, Korda won most of the match against first-time finalist Cobolli. But the Italian came up with one of the best shots of the day on his first break to clinch the opening set with a nail-biting winner.

From 1-2 in the second, Korda won 11 straight games to run away with the ATP 500 title. Playing within himself, he relied on his experience to see off a strong effort from the 22-year-old Cobolli, who competed in the Next Gen ATP Finals presented by PIF in November.

Now 2-0 in the Lexus ATP Head2Head of the two, Korda has now achieved one “way” in Rome in addition to this victory in front of the home fans in Washington.

Both men saved match points en route to the title match: Korda saved two against Thanasi Kokkinakis in the third round, while Cobolli had five against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the second round.

Like Korda, Cobolli will also leave Washington with the top PIF ATP ranking. The Italian is expected to climb 15 places in the World No. 33 on Monday.
