CARNOUSTIE, Scotland – South Korea's KJ Choi has a two-shot lead at the Senior British Open after carding a 3-under 69 in the second round on Friday.
Choi matched her first round result. He advanced after eagleing the par-5 12th hole at Carnoustie.
“Today's irons were better than yesterday's and they're still within six, seven meters; the putter, it's a lot harder to learn,” Choi said. “A few mistakes on some shots and a few mistakes with the putter but he still hit the same as yesterday.”
Overnight leader Stephen Ames was Choi's closest runner going into the weekend. A naturalized Canadian citizen from Trinidad played the part of the day.
Australia's Richard Green (72) and Irishman Padraig Harrington (70) are three strokes off the lead.
Harrington is well placed to become the fifth man to win both the British Open and the Senior British Open.
“We only played 36 holes. It felt like we played 72,” Harrington said. “It was a tough 36 holes with that weather and wind and you have to keep going, and I'm sure it will be another tough 36 to come.”
