Crawford Vs. Ennis: The Essentials of Fight Boxing
[ad_1]
Honorable Turki Alalshikh kicked the dust with his fight efforts between his favorite fighters, Terence Crawford, and Canelo Alvarez.
With that fight off the table, fans want to see Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis take on Crawford next. Fans want to see that fight in the US market, and it could sell some options for Crawford.
Turki wanted Canelo to fight Crawford; even the Nebraska native had never fought at 168 and was going to be completely outmatched.
Overcoming Crawford’s Doubt
For this Crawford-Ennis fight to happen, Turki will need to overcome Crawford’s stubbornness to fight Boot because he and his trainer, Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre, want nothing to do with fighting talent.
Turki will have to negotiate with Crawford for a long time to agree to fight Ennis because he has always refused to take a dangerous match. It’s understandable because Crawford is not young, and Boot will use his age.
Ennis (32-0, 29 KOs) and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, have said they want Crawford’s next fight.
Hearn predicted Crawford, 36, would lose to young phenom Ennis based on the way he looked last Saturday night, winning a controversial twelve-round unanimous decision against WBA junior middleweight champion Israel Madrimov in Los Angeles.
Passing the Torch
The Crawford-Ennis fight will sell in the fan market because Boots Ennis is a rising star and will appear to have a strong chance of defeating the aging lion Crawford.
Many view Ennis, 27, as Crawford’s successor and an exciting development. It would be a good move for Crawford to agree to fight Boot because it would allow him to take over and become the next star in the US.
Turki likes Crawford and would be willing to join him in this fight, knowing that the odds of him losing to Ennis will be high. Crawford is heading towards the end of his career though, and a loss to Ennis might be as good as it gets.
If Turki still hopes to negotiate a fight between Crawford and Canelo in 2025, he probably won’t be able to match Crawford with Boots because that would be a changing of the guard.
Crawford is popular with a section of die-hard boxing fans who appreciate his artistic style, but he’s not a star with mainstream fans in the U.S. He lacks charisma. His fighting style is very similar to that of Shakur Stevenson, which made him very popular.
Last weekend, Crawford showed why he is not popular with his boring chess battle against Israel Madrimov. The fans surrounded the fight, and there are reports that people were leaving in large numbers before it ended. They came to see Isaac Cruz take on Jose ‘Rayo’ Valenzuela in the co-feature, which was a very entertaining fight.
