Colin Jost Quits Olympics Reporter Gig in Tahiti After Injury

Colin JostTahiti’s bid for the 2024 Olympics has come to an end.

Deadline it was reported on Monday, August 5, that Jost, 42, is out of action after a series of unfortunate injuries. NBC replaced the comedian with an Australian weatherman Luke Bradnam. No reason was given for Jost’s departure.

Us Weekly has reached out to NBC for comment.

Bradnam was already in Tahiti covering shows for Australia’s Channel Nine. The broadcaster met Jost a few times before he left but Bradnam didn’t know who he was Saturday Night Live star was.

“I said to one of the officers ‘Who is that?,’ and he said, ‘You know who you are,'” Bradnam recalled to Reuters on Sunday, August 4. “And I go, ‘I don’t know. .’ He goes, ‘You are married to him Scarlett Johansson. You appear Saturday Night Live.’”

On Monday, Jost shared a clip on Instagram of a segment he filmed in Tahiti ahead of the 2024 Olympic surfing semifinals. (Events have been delayed in the past due to low surf conditions.)

“The rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated,” Jost captioned the video. “The Olympic surfing semis and finals are now taking place in Tahiti. On the Wall of Skulls.”

Since touching down in French Polynesia in July, things have not gone according to plan for Jost. While speaking with the NBC Sports anchor Maria Taylor last month, Jost gave a candid update on how his assignment was going so far.

“I’m sorry we were a little late getting to you. You won’t believe it based on this yard full of chickens, but we had technical problems,” he said, pointing to the birds behind him.

Aside from the unique working conditions, Jost also shared that he injured his foot while in the water.

“For example, before you came to me, I had open wounds on my feet from hitting coral reefs,” he explained during the broadcast. “Actually, I have been walking well in this yard because when I stand, ants start crawling inside the wound. It’s not what I expected.”

Jost later gave an update that he has become more familiar with the medical staff on site as his toe has not been healing well.

“They started saying, ‘We need to see you every day.’ At first, I was like, ‘Oh, my God, guys, I love you too,'” Jost recalled on the air. And they were like, ‘No, it’s because the infection hasn’t progressed.’

In addition to his toe injury, Jost also managed to get an ear infection.

“I woke up this morning and found out that I have added an ear to the growing list of my diseases,” he said on radio in July. “So now I have three different drugs – four if you count the piña coladas.”
