Chrissy Teigen Reveals 6-Year-Old Son Miles Has Type 1 Diabetes

Chrissy Teigen revealed that he and John Legend6-year-old son, Miles, has type 1 diabetes.

“Many of you saw something special in the photo I posted a few days ago — Luna, Miles and I celebrating. Simon [Biles] and Team USA,” Teigen, 38, wrote on Instagram on Wednesday, July 31. “Miles had his arm up, and soooo many of you reached out to say the most beautiful and incredible words I’ve ever seen on this stage.”

Teigen was talking about a photo she posted on Monday, July 29, of herself and Miles and daughter Luna, 8, holding signs that read, “Simone.” Teigen also shared a photo in her post on Wednesday alongside her lengthy caption.

“He recognized that he had type 1 diabetes and conveyed so much love and encouragement in every way,” she wrote. “I was there, and I was shocked by the kindness of this community.”

Teigen noted that “things could be worse,” acknowledging that there are parents all over the world who are “going through unfathomable problems.”

Teigen explained that Miles fell ill a few weeks ago with “a bad case of shigella, an intestinal infection caused by bacteria in food or water.” He noted that “many of his friends” were also suffering from the disease.

“But the doctors knew there was something else that wasn’t right about his blood test,” he wrote. “Since then I’ve learned that this is how a lot of young children end up being diagnosed with type 1 – going to the hospital only to find something completely different.”

Miles is in the honeymoon period of a lifetime T1,” Teigen continued. “Last night we gave him his first shot of insulin and here we go! It’s a whole new world for us and we’re learning a lot in no time.”

Teigen continued her post by expressing her gratitude for the “kindness” she received. “It really helps Miles to know that many other people are going through the same problems and he is not alone,” she wrote.

Teigen noted that Legend, 45, read a book titled, “Year One with Type One” to Miles on Tuesday, July 30, and “broke tears” on one page and “had to leave the room so he couldn’t see. I’m crying.”

The page read, “When I get ready for bed at the end of each day I always feel safe and my parents will say: ‘Son, you are brave in the way you handle pain.’ You take all these pictures and you never complain. We both wish there was more we could do. We’ll take fifty shots each to save the next two.’”

“Anyway, you’re not alone anymore!” he concluded. “And we promise that we will be there for you guys as we have been supporting you already!”

Teigen and Legend welcomed Miles in 2018. They are also parents to Luna, daughter Esti Maxine, 18 months, and son Wren, 13 months.
