Canelo Doesn’t Care About Crawford Fight

Canelo Alvarez reiterated today that he has “no” interest in a fight with Terence Crawford, and he never asked for it. Mexican superstar Canelo sent a strong message to the Honorable Turki Alalshikh today.
Alvarez doesn’t care that Turki is no longer interested in a fight between him and Crawford who will be 37 years old because he never asked for it in the first place.
I’m not interested, I’ve never been asked
That was completely on Crawford’s side, pushing the fight for a payday and a chance to further his legacy, or so he says. I suspect that Crawford’s main motive for wanting the Canelo fight is to get money. The estate is very low on the list.
Alvarez says he was briefed yesterday about a possible fight with Crawford in February. He says he told them he is focused on his September 14 fight against Edgar Berlanga right now.
“Crawford needs to fight Teofimo first, and then we’ll see,” said Canelo Alvarez on Fight Hub TV, in response to the Honorable Turki Alalshikh saying that he is no longer interested in a fight between himself and Terence Crawford. “I am not asking for that war. See [Crawford] I want to do that fight because it’s obviously a payday. I don’t want that war. Teofimo deserves more than me.”
I don’t know how serious Canelo was about Crawford fighting Teofimo, but if he is serious about it, the Honorable Turki Alalshikh should have no trouble putting that match together.
Teofimo has been calling out Crawford lately, and is asking for a chance to fight him. He even won a move up to 154 to make the fight happen.
Crawford doesn’t care about fighting Teofimo because it won’t make him close to the money he can get when he fights Canelo or other fights.
Canelo had never asked to fight Crawford. Everything was on his side, so it’s no big deal that Turki has changed his mind about fighting that fight because it wasn’t on Canelo’s radar. Crawford should fight guys in or around his weight class rather than looking to fight Canelo in a division he’s never competed in.
Canelo will take Crawford very seriously if he moves up to 168 and proves himself against one or two sharks in or around the division, such as David Benavidez and David Morrell. These would be the two best names Crawford should fight to be considered the same as Canelo, but he’s not fighting those guys because he’s going to lose.
Besides, Crawford couldn’t even beat 154-pounder Israel Madrimov without controversy, and it looked like he was run over by a train at the end of the contest last Saturday night.
“My answer to Turki is: Yesterday they sent me messages saying that we can discuss that fight in February with Crawford. I said, ‘I will not talk about any other war. I am 100% focused on this fight. Look, I don’t like the way he talks,” Canelo said of Turki Alalshikh.
If Turki wants Crawford to fight Canelo, he will have to use tactics:
- Get in line
- Know your place
- Get fighting
- Come to Canelo the right way
“If he wants to work with me, then it’s my way, not theirs. I don’t need it. That’s not how you approach me. I respect everyone and I respect Turki. If he wants to work with me, it must be my way. If it has nothing to do with Crawford,” said Canelo.
So there is. Canelo informed Crawford that if he wants to fight him, negotiations must be his way.
With that fight out of the question for Crawford, he should show Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis’ face and give Madrimov a rematch. If Crawford wins those two fights without a controversy, it won’t matter that the Canelo match will never happen.
