ByronStatics cassette player review: fashion and function
[ad_1]
Key Takeaways
- The ByronStatics cassette player offers nostalgic simplicity with its elegant design and essential features such as cassette playback and radio support.
- The portable player is easy to use, but be prepared to use your headphones as the built-in speaker does not deliver good sound quality.
- If you’re looking for the ultimate retro tech experience, the ByronStatics cassette player is a stylish, affordable option with an attractive design.
Retro tech is not only exciting because of its nostalgia factor but also its simplicity and, of course, its overall beauty. For many of us, there is nothing more exciting than using a beautiful, well-designed piece of technology that allows us to enjoy classic media. I want to put my phone away, forget that Spotify is there, and take my cassettes out of the closet.
The ByronStatics cassette player is exactly what I have in mind when I describe the above. At first glance, it looks really precious, its pink color more like a Barbie toy than a working cassette player. So I use it to see how it goes as a cassette player.

The ByronStatics cassette player is exactly what I want in a cassette player: It plays and records cassettes and supports FM and AM radio. There’s nothing more to it, it just does what it’s supposed to do. And, it’s adorable.

Pricing, specifications, and availability
ByronStatics is available on Amazon for $53. A standard-sized cassette player, it weighs 7.2 ounces and measures 4.5 x 3.1 x 1.2 inches. It features a clip that allows you to attach everything to your belt, so it’s portable. The casing is all plastic and has nice, big tactile buttons, which make it feel like a toy from the ’90s you found in your closet or garage sale.
BryonStatics is powered using a microUSB power cable or 2 AA batteries. You will need to supply your own batteries.
The cassette player has a built-in speaker. It comes with earbuds, but they don’t sound very good, so you’ll want to use your own. BryonStatics doesn’t include Bluetooth connectivity, so you’ll want to make sure you have wired headphones available to use.
What I liked about the ByronStatics cassette player
It’s incredibly nostalgic and touching
A cassette player should be simple. It should do what it’s supposed to do without any extra useless features. ByronStatics is just that: It plays and records tapes, and comes with a built-in FM and AM radio. In my opinion, that’s all a cassette player should do, in true retro tech fashion. ByronStatics only supports wired headphones, and no Bluetooth, making it a fun blast from the past.
I really like the design of this cassette player as well. It’s almost like a toy, and the pink one I got to review is extremely pretty. I was happy to clip it to my belt and listen to it outdoors because it’s not only a great piece of technology but also a great accessory. And speaking of attaching it to my belt, thankfully it has a clip, so you don’t have to go and grab it.

I replaced the stream with a Sony Walkman E394, and it brought me back to simpler times
These days, multiple devices do everything. But the Walkman E394 I recently tried is dedicated to one thing only: simplicity.
What I didn’t like about the ByronStatics cassette player
Unfortunately the speaker misses the mark
The biggest problem with the ByronStatics cassette player is that the built-in speaker doesn’t sound great. It’s tinny and doesn’t produce bass sounds properly. This is to be expected from an Amazon-bought cassette player that looks more like a toy than anything, so I’m not too surprised or too disappointed by this.
The radio signal is also not very good if you are not using headphones. Headphones improve the radio signal as much as a cassette player will, but if you’re just using a speaker, the radio signal will be a mess. If it had the same note as other radio-cassette player combos I’ve used, that could be improved.

Short answer: It’s complicated.
Should you buy a ByronStatics cassette player?
The ByronStatics cassette player is a great buy if you’re looking for a cassette player that does the basics and doesn’t have any bells and whistles. It plays and records tapes, has a radio, and that’s it. If you’re looking for something advanced, this won’t be for you.
It’s also a great option if you’re specifically looking for a well-designed cassette player. I liked how it looked in pink, but it also looks great in yellow and black. It’s very plasticky and feels like a toy, but that’s part of its appeal, in my opinion.
