This quote is a kind of rallying cry that encourages one to use what they have now, take advantage of what is currently available, and push forward and make a business work even when the odds are stacked against it.

Entrepreneurial thinking is about using the resources available in the area. When I started my business, I had many ideas, but little money available to help me make them happen. The first few weeks of the startup were smooth and encouraging, but the founders faced a lack of money, a small workforce and a lot of competition. This was not only cheaper but also brought more credibility to the whole process and a true connection with the audience.

Remember, it’s better to work with what you have than to complain about what you don’t have. Focus on your strengths, either personal and/or organizational, and develop them. For example, in my case, it was a small group of highly dedicated and well-mannered employees. We didn’t have the manpower of a large corporate company, but we had flexibility, a proactive nature and extensive knowledge about our target segment. These strengths have been our competitive advantage in strategic implementation and organizational performance.

Sometimes, the best things are staring us in the face, and we don’t see them because all our energy is in what we lack. Roosevelt’s advice helps one to look for local opportunities and strive to explore them.

Start by building good relationships with people in your area or region. When I started my business, I presented myself at the chamber of commerce, participated in business fairs and collaborated with other small businesses. They provide valuable assistance, open up opportunities for development and contribute to future growth.

Today’s world would be unthinkable without the use of technology. However, by bringing it to customers, I was able to restore it, refine it and speed it up with iterations. It is worth emphasizing that failure is inherent in the business process. Some people see it as a setback and a loss, but they should learn from it. Every failure has lessons to learn from and help you improve. In my experience, one of the biggest improvements we made was after we had our biggest bad luck. Taking what went wrong as a baseline and making some changes allowed the situation to improve, and the changes seemed to be stepping stones.
