The views expressed by the business participants are their own.

One of Theodore Roosevelt’s most famous quotes, which remains relevant to this day, is: “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” It is the goal of all entrepreneurs to work under the right conditions and have all the resources they may need, but this is not always possible. This quote is a kind of rallying cry that encourages one to use what they have now, take advantage of what is currently available, and push forward and make a business work even when the odds are stacked against it.

Below is how to adopt this mindset to transform your business management strategy for success.

The concept of creativity

Entrepreneurial thinking is about using the resources available in the area. When I started my business, I had many ideas, but little money available to help me make them happen. The first few weeks of the startup were smooth and encouraging, but the founders faced a lack of money, a small workforce and a lot of competition. However, instead of waiting for the right conditions, I decided to take whatever I had and start working with it.

Accepting limitations

Limitations are known to stimulate creativity and act as a significant driver of innovation. In empty situations, one is always challenged to think and look for other ways and means of doing things with proper planning techniques. For example, the lack of a large amount of advertising funds made me look at other ways of marketing the company, such as opposition marketing and the effective use of social networks, which I might not have been forced to do otherwise. This was not only cheaper but also brought more credibility to the whole process and a true connection with the audience.

Focusing on energy

Remember, it’s better to work with what you have than to complain about what you don’t have. Focus on your strengths, either personal and/or organizational, and develop them. For example, in my case, it was a small group of highly dedicated and well-mannered employees. We didn’t have the manpower of a large corporate company, but we had flexibility, a proactive nature and extensive knowledge about our target segment. These strengths have been our competitive advantage in strategic implementation and organizational performance.

Taking advantage of immediate opportunities

Sometimes, the best things are staring us in the face, and we don’t see them because all our energy is in what we lack. Roosevelt’s advice helps one to look for local opportunities and strive to explore them.

Building local networks

Start by building good relationships with people in your area or region. When I started my business, I presented myself at the chamber of commerce, participated in business fairs and collaborated with other small businesses. They provide valuable assistance, open up opportunities for development and contribute to future growth.

Using available technology

Today’s world would be unthinkable without the use of technology. However, some strategies designed for the early stages of company development do not require significant investment and include the following key points: The tools used include Google Workspace for teamwork and document sharing, Canva for graphic design and social media for advertising. These tools enabled us to be more efficient and productive and were relatively cheap.

Adaptation and repetition

It should be understood that business environments are dynamic and not static. Flexibility and regular improvement should be considered among the key factors for long-term success.

Starting small and scaling

A common mistake business owners often make is to plan and wait for that perfect time to get started. But first, start on a small scale, and when you gain some insights about your ideas, grow your business. The first product I put out was far from perfect. However, by bringing it to customers, I was able to restore it, refine it and speed it up with iterations. This has helped us not only improve our offerings but also adapt to the market more effectively and expand.

Learning from failure

It is worth emphasizing that failure is inherent in the business process. Some people see it as a setback and a loss, but they should learn from it. Every failure has lessons to learn from and help you improve. In my experience, one of the biggest improvements we made was after we had our biggest bad luck. Taking what went wrong as a baseline and making some changes allowed the situation to improve, and the changes seemed to be stepping stones.

Maintaining a positive attitude and acting quickly

One of the most important factors in the field of business is the attitude one develops. Roosevelt’s quote emphasizes the need to have positive thinking and a proactive attitude.

Cultivating endurance

It is very important to understand that entrepreneurship is about riding a roller coaster. Resilience must be developed to manage these emotional ups and downs. Each time I faced any kind of difficulty, I was encouraged by Roosevelt’s words. They guided me on how to stay positive, maintain a positive attitude and keep going no matter what circumstances may seem hopeless.

We celebrate small wins

When undertaking large projects, one runs the risk of failing to see small successes. However, these can be seen as important steps, and the best way to deal with this is to use other strategies that boost morale, energize and energize your team. Every time we made progress in our process, no matter what level, we would always stop to see the progress and have a party. This practice developed healthy motivation among team members, which means success in cultivating a good organizational culture.
