The plane crashed in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, killing all 62 people on board.
The twin-engine turboprop plane was flying from Cascavel in the southern state of Paraná to the main airport in the city of São Paulo when it went down in the city of Vinhedo, airline Voepass said.
Pictures circulating on social media show the plane descending vertically, spinning as it falls.
The plane was carrying 58 passengers and four crew members. Local authorities said there were no survivors.
Authorities said the plane landed in a residential area, but no one was injured on the ground.
They said that only one house was damaged in the local center, and none of the residents were injured.
Brazilian television network GloboNews showed images of a large area of burning and smoldering rubble in an area full of houses.
Police and firefighters are on the scene and local hospitals have been notified.
According to the tracking website Flightradar24, the plane was built in 2010 and took off from Cascavel at 11:56 local time (14:56 GMT). The last signal received from the plane was an hour and a half later.
The president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, paid tribute to the victims at the event where he was speaking.
“I have to bear very bad news and I would like everyone to stand up so we can have a moment of silence,” he told his audience.
He wrote on social media that the news of the accident was “very sad.” All my solidarity with the families and friends of the victims.”
The nearby town of Valinhos sent 20 paramedics to the scene, local authorities said.
“20 men have been recruited, including three vehicles from the Civil Guard of the Municipality of Valinhos and one vehicle from the security forces,” said a statement from Valinhos City Hall.
The governor of the state of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, is also heading to the scene.
Aircraft manufacturer ATR said in a statement that they were informed of the accident involving the ATR 72-500.
“Our first thoughts are with all the people affected by this incident. ATR experts are fully engaged to support the investigation and the customer,” said the aircraft manufacturer.
