Meghan Markle she talked about herself and her husband Prince Harry’3-year-old daughter, Lilibet, is reaching a major milestone.
“I think part of acting is what I’m really trying to do as a mother is to inspire our daughter,” said Markle, 43, on Sunday, August 18, at a group titled Afro-Descendant Women and Power: Voice of Equity. “And by 3, he’s got his voice.”
The Duchess of Sussex added that she is “proud” of Lilibet, who she welcomed in 2021 with Harry, 39. (Markle and Harry, who tied the knot in 2018, share son Archie, 5.)
“That’s how we create situations where there’s a negative impact of little girls and young women knowing that if someone encourages them to use their voice and be heard, that’s what they’re going to do,” said Markle. “They will create a very different environment than most of us grew up in, where our voices had to be small,”
Markle continued, “And now in raising them, we’re changing the conditions and the environment where everyone has room to be the best version of themselves.”
Markle spoke from the sidelines Binaifer Nowrojee and the Vice President of Colombia Francia Márquez during the panel event, which was part of her and Harry’s trip to Colombia.
While visiting a local drumming school, Escuela Tambores de Cabildo, in Cartagena on Saturday, August 17, Markle paid tribute to her children. Markle accessorized in a black striped maxi dress by Colombian designer Johanna Ortiz, pairing the look with a gold “Imperial Disc Pendant” from Ariel Gordon Jewelry. The necklace had the names of her children, “Archie” and “Lilibet.”
Ahead of Harry and Meghan’s trip to the South American country, the couple discussed the Parents Network, a new initiative in partnership with their Archewell Foundation.
Parents Network – now available in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada – aims to provide a safe and free support network for parents whose children have been harmed by social media.
“What you want to do as parents is to protect them,” Markle said earlier this month during her and Harry’s interview Jane Pauley for an episode of CBS Sunday morning. “Also, as we see what’s happening in the internet space, we know there’s a lot of work to be done there, and we’re happy to be able to be a part of the change for the better.”
