Wawrinka, Thiem Awarded US Open Wild Cards

Two former US Open qualifiers have been awarded US Open men’s singles cards.
2016 champion Stan Wawrinka and 2020 champion Dominic Thiem will enter this year’s tournament, along with six other underdogs, the US Open announced Wednesday.

The 39-year-old Wawrinka, a three-time major champion, and the 30-year-old Thiem, who is playing in his last major, are joined by Chris Eubanks, Zachara Zvajda, Student Tien, Matthew Forbes, Alexandre Muller again Tristan Schoolkate.
Tien won the US Open wild card challenge, and Forbes won the USTA National Championships 18s in Kalamazoo last weekend.
Thiem will retire in Vienna in October. He is currently ranked 211.
The 39-year-old Wawrinka is ranked 141. He is 5-11 this season.
