Fundora Focuses on Spence, Open to Crawford Future

WBC/WBO junior middleweight champion Sebastian Fundora says he is “on a different path” now than Terence Crawford, but would like to fight him in the future. Crawford has indicated that he wants to fight Fundora next if he can’t get a match with Canelo Alvarez, which doesn’t seem likely.

Fundora Stays Strong In Spence Fight

Fundora is expected to secure Errol Spence in November or December later this year. Spence will be out of the limelight, but it doesn’t matter when he’s as famous as he is.

It’s doubtful that Fundora (21-1-1, 13 KOs) will fight Crawford in the future because he has PC, and they may not want to do that fight after what happened to Errol Spence last year. If money goes crazy, Fundora will take it.

“I am ready to fight whenever you give me a date. They will announce it to you guys. You will see me back there,” said Sebastian Fundora speaking to Fighthype when he was asked when he will fight next.

Fundora obviously knows she’s going to fight Spence next, but she may have been told not to say anything. He doesn’t want to jump the gun before the game is official.

Fundora’s Youth and Size Advantage

“I didn’t watch it. I wasn’t worried about that,” Fundora said when asked if he sees Terence Crawford’s title fight on Saturday night against WBA junior middleweight champion Israel Madrimov.

As long as the Honorable Turki Alalshikh is working with Crawford, he is one of the best players in the 154, and he will love to fight because the risk is worth it financially.

He’s getting old again, and he didn’t look great in his debut at 154 last weekend against WBA champion Israel Madrimov. Fundora’s 26-year-old youth and 6’6″ height will be a problem for Crawford when they fight next year.

“If I get that fight, I’ll love it, but right now, we have a different plan,” Fundora said of the Crawford fight. “I will announce you guys. Everyone wants to announce it. They know the information before me. I don’t even want to say anything anymore.”

Fundora could make good money fighting Spence twice and again against Tim Tszyu. He doesn’t need to fight Crawford yet. He can keep that until the end if he still holds the WBC and WBO titles. Crawford will be a bit older when Fundora is ready to fight him, which would work for him.

“I expected Terence to win. He is a good fighter. World class. Madrimov is good, too. I am sure that he will become the world champion again,” said Fundira. “I didn’t watch it, but I’m sure it was fun. Our section is exciting right now. We have these guys [Serhii Bohachuk vs. Vegil Ortiz Jr.] fight this weekend for the [WBC junior middleweight] temporary subject. Good. I’m looking forward to it.”

Crawford almost didn’t win the Madrimov fight, which would have ruined things for a lot of people, especially Turki, who was really looking at him and wanted to put him in the big fights.

“We have the name of the opponent right now, but I can’t say his name right now. I bring it down to anyone,” said Fundora.
