Here’s What Jesse A. Sartin Accused His Girlfriend’s 1-Year-Old Daughter
Law & Crime reports that on July 24, authorities with the Lawrenceburg Police Department responded to a call from St. Elizabeth Dearborn. The call revealed that a 21-month-old girl had a “suspicious” head injury.
“Initially, it was reported to medical personnel that the little girl had been injured in the accident,” Dearborn County Prosecutor. Lynn Deddens said on Facebook. “After investigation, it was found that SARTIN is accused of shaking the little girl for about twenty (20) seconds. The 21-month-old child was cared for by SARTIN while the child’s mother was at work.”
Afterward, the child was transported to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. There, medical officials performed “emergency brain surgery… to relieve brain swelling and pressure inside his skull.”
The report adds that the doctors are said to have asserted that the child’s brain is so swollen that it is “leaking.[ed] with his ears.”
The suspect is reported with details of the reason for his movement of the year-old
According to WLWT, Sartin explained in detail what he did to the child during his interview with the police. It is reported that she suspected that after bathing the baby, “she was aggressive and clapping her hands, not wanting to get out of the tub.”
At that point, he allegedly grabbed her “and shook her for about 20 seconds.”
“When the bubbles were gone, I drained the water and put his toys away,” Sartin reportedly wrote in a letter to his girlfriend, according to Law & Crime. “I tried to get him out but he didn’t want to come out. He shouted and swung his arms. I tried to pull him out but he kept pulling and I got angry. Baby, I’m sad. I shook him, trying to calm him down.”
According to the source, the one-year-old died on August 1. WLWT reports that an autopsy revealed that the child had “swelling on the brain, severe bleeding from both eyes, and bleeding from the spinal cord.” PEOPLE added that the child’s injuries were deemed “consistent with child tremors.”
