Warning: This story contains sad details of animal cruelty
Adam Britton, a leading zoologist who has worked on BBC and National Geographic productions, pleaded guilty to 56 counts of sleeping with animals and animal cruelty.
He also pleaded guilty to four counts of obtaining child abuse services.
The Northern Territory (NT) High Court heard the 53-year-old filmed himself abusing animals until they almost all died, then shared the videos online under fake names.
His abuse went undetected for years until a clue was found in one of his videos. Britton was arrested in April 2022 after a search of his rural home in Darwin, which also found child abuse material on his laptop.
Many details of Britton’s crimes are too vivid to be published, so “shocking” the judge sometimes warns people to leave the courtroom.
This is breaking news – more to follow.
