Taylor Swift’s three upcoming concerts in Vienna have been canceled following a potential security threat.
The shows were supposed to take place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Ernst Happel Stadium.
On Wednesday, two people were arrested suspected of planning Islamist attacks on large events in the area around the Austrian capital.
A statement from the organizers said: “Due to confirmation by government officials of a planned terrorist attack at the Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled matches for everyone’s safety.
The statement added: “All tickets will be automatically refunded within the next 10 working days.”
Earlier, the Director General of Austria for Public Security, Franz Ruf, said that a 19-year-old Austrian citizen was arrested on Wednesday morning in Ternitz in the province of Lower Austria.
He said a second arrest was made in Vienna this afternoon, but he did not give any more information about the suspect.
“According to the current state of the investigation, two suspects turned to the Internet,” said Mr. Ruf.
He said the 19-year-old had “pledged allegiance” to the so-called Islamic State in early July.
A major police operation took place in Ternitz, where a 19-year-old boy lived. Many nearby houses were evacuated while his house was searched.
Mr. Ruf said that chemicals have been found that are yet to be tested.
Vienna’s police chief, Gerhard Pürstl, said 65,000 people a day are expected to attend the concerts, as well as 22,000 fans outside the venue.
The investigation is ongoing.
