Suga of the K-pop boy group BTS has apologized after being fined for driving an electric scooter while drunk.
Writing on social media, the 31-year-old said he was “heartbroken and apologetic” for bringing “disappointing news” to his fans.
In the post, the rapper explained that he “violated a traffic law” while driving home in Seoul “thinking it was a close distance” and “[forgot] that you cannot use an electric scooter under the influence”.
“I fell when I parked my electric scooter in front of my house, there was a policeman nearby,” he wrote.
“I was breathalysed and my license was revoked and I was fined.”
South Korean news agency Yonhap reported that police said his blood alcohol level was 0.08%.
He added: “Although no one was injured and no property was damaged, this is entirely my responsibility without excuse.
“I apologize to those who were harmed by my negligence and misconduct, and I will ensure that this does not happen again in the future.
The incredibly successful boy band is still standing as its members finish military service.
Suga started his ministry last year and works as a social service agent after being determined unfit for regular combat duty.
Local media reported that the star’s exceptional service may be related to the shoulder surgery he needed in 2020.
BTS’ record label Bighit also issued an apology for the motorcycle incident.
“We are deeply sorry for the incident involving BTS member Suga and his electric kickboard accident,” they said in a statement.
“We apologize for the disappointment caused by the singer’s inappropriate behavior.
“As a social agent during military service, he is willing to accept any disciplinary action in his field of duty for causing public disturbance.
“We will be very careful that similar incidents do not happen again in the future.”
