Nat Geo’s first immersive Vision Pro takes you to Iceland

National Geographic is known for new media. The network has produced dozens of immersive reality experiences, 360 degree videos, and even its own “Space Helmets” for its big-budget show. Rock One Strange. Today, it finally delivers its first Apple Vision Pro immersive experience: a Disney+ location featuring Iceland’s Thingvellir National Park. Now you can sit back and watch The Avengers in 3D between pure white snow, tall rock formations and clear blue sky (or full starry night). Alongside that film, Disney+ is also adding 3D versions I Age of Ultron and the first two Ant-Man movies today.
While standing in the middle of a snowy park isn’t as easy as paddling a kayak through Arctic waters in VR, the environment shows that Nat Geo isn’t completely ignoring the Vision Pro. Apple’s headset lacks a truly immersive experience, aside from the “Encounter Dinosaurs” demo it shipped with, and Marvel’s What if…?
I’m not holding my breath for National Geographic’s big budget dedicated solely to Vision Pro, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility. Nat Geo may retool some of its existing VR projects to run on Vision Pro, or even adapt One Strange Rock’s a different view of the helmet. (I’d bet money only very few people have ever seen pictures in that form.)
