USA shooting team Payton Otterdahl engaged to be married.

The Olympian, 28, proposed to his girlfriend, Maddy Nilles, on Sunday, August 4, in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. “For now, in the City of Love…I love you forever, Maddy Nilles!” he wrote via Instagram.

Her sweet post was accompanied by several photos of the happy couple cuddling up in front of the famous landmark, including a romantic photo of Otterdahl drenching her new boyfriend during their kiss.

A day before the grand proposal, Otterdahl finished fourth in the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. Team USA still took home two medals, as Ryan Crosser won gold with a throw of 22.90 meters and Joe Kovacs silver plated. In Jamaica Rajindra Campbell he took the copper.

Per Team USA, Crouser’s win makes him the first shot putter in Olympic history to win three consecutive gold medals.

“Throwing a 16-pound ball is not easy on the body – throwing it as hard as you can, as hard as you can,” Crouser told reporters after the event on Saturday. “Being the first to win three times is proof of how much football beats you.

Otterdahl was in third place after the first lap, but was passed by Campbell and Kovacs. “That’s just the reality of fourth place — it’s unbelievable,” Otterdahl said afterward, according to Team USA. “I’m not satisfied with the way I played, but it is what it is. I wish we could have made it feel like we were close, but not close enough.”

The 2024 Olympics have seen their fair share of love since the Games began in Paris on July 26. Shortly after the win, Huang’s boyfriend and fellow Olympian, a men’s doubles player Liu Yuchenhe was surprised with flowers and a ring.

“I can’t describe the feeling I have because I’m happy, happy, happy,” Huang said, according to the Olympics website. “Getting the gold medal is the honor of our journey. I was surprised by the wedding ring. I was focused on training to become an Olympic champion. I never expected it. I haven’t thought about how we’re going to celebrate.”

Some athletes will leave Paris with one less ring than they came with. High quality Italian jumper Gianmarco Tamberi apologized to his wife on Instagram after he lost his wedding ring in the River Seine during the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“I’m sorry my love, I’m sorry,” Tamberi, 32, wrote in her post.
