Apple has finally started sending payments from its butterfly keyboard payment

Payments related to a class-action lawsuit filed in 2018 over Apple MacBook butterfly keyboards have reportedly begun to arrive. The payments website now says payments for approved claims will go out in August – and sure enough, 9 on 5 MacMichael Burkhardt reports that he received two checks in the mail on Saturday. How much eligible MacBook owners will receive varies depending on the level of maintenance their equipment requires. But for some, it could mean a check (or multiple) of up to $395.
After Apple introduced the butterfly keyboard in 2015, there were complaints about “sticky” and unresponsive keys, the presence of debris and other serious problems. The company finally started to finish the project in 2019. A lawsuit filed in 2018 accused Apple of knowing its keyboards had problems and hiding them from consumers. Although Apple denies the lawsuit’s allegations of defective keyboards and has denied wrongdoing, it agreed to pay $50 million as part of the settlement.
According to the repair website, people who received two or more topcases instead of four years of buying one affected MacBook are expected to receive between $300-$395. MacBook owners who received a replacement topcase may be up to $125. Claimants who only needed a key replacement will receive a $50 limit. Of course, in order to receive payment, you will need to file any claims by the deadlines specified in the payment. And, when the fix is first reached in 2022, Reuters reported that it will only apply to customers who purchased the affected laptops in California, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, New York and Washington.
