Israeli protestors who are members of the opposition entered a military camp to show support for the soldiers who are accused of severely torturing a Palestinian prisoner.

Crowds of people gathered outside the Sde Teiman building after Israeli military police entered it to arrest the soldiers, who are currently under official investigation.

Sde Teiman near Beersheba in southern Israel has been in the midst of reports of severe torture against Gazan detainees for months.

On Monday dozens of protesters, including far-right MPs from Israel's ruling coalition, entered the compound's gate while others tried to climb over the fence, chanting “we will not abandon our friends, we will certainly not abandon terrorists”.

It is reported that some of the soldiers at this center used pepper spray targeting the police who came to arrest the reserves.

Demonstrators also entered the Beit Lid army camp in central Israel where suspected reservists were taken for questioning.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a statement strongly condemning the incident and saying that “temporaries should be brought down immediately”.

The Minister of Defence, Yoav Gallant, said that the investigation into the conduct of the soldiers must be allowed to continue, adding that “even in times of anger, the law applies to everyone”.

However, some Israeli politicians have criticized the detention of these reserves. Itamar Ben-Gvir, the right-wing National Security minister, called their arrest a “disgrace”.

According to local media reports, at least nine Israeli soldiers in the area are accused of torturing a Palestinian prisoner, a suspected Hamas fighter who was captured in Gaza.

He is said to have been hospitalized after what Israeli media reports described as severe sexual assault and anus injuries that left him unable to walk.

The Israeli military said its lawyer had ordered an investigation “following the severe abuse of a detainee”.

Right-wing Israelis protested at a military base after the military caught abusing Gazan prisoners

Since the October 7 attack by Hamas, Israeli authorities have rounded up and detained thousands of Palestinians, often without legal representation.

The BBC has spoken to doctors at the field hospital in Sde Teiman, who said that the prisoners were blindfolded, tied to their beds forever, and dressed in diapers instead of going to the toilet.

Last month, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz published allegations made by a doctor in Sde Teiman that the legs of two prisoners were amputated, due to injuries sustained while in custody. The BBC has not independently verified the claims.

Those arrested there told reporters and United Nations officials that they were beaten and assaulted. The Israel Defense Forces have denied systematic torture.

Many Gazans arrested by Israeli forces were released without charge after interrogation. Amnesty International this month called on Israel to end the indefinite detention of Palestinians in Gaza and what it called “rampant torture” in its prisons.
