Olympian Jordan Chiles Says Long Nails Help With Gymnastics

The Gymnast Jordan Chiles she's ready to rock the Paris Olympics, and she's not stopping at her hairdo to do so.
“Many people always ask me how I do gymnastics with such long nails. To tell you the truth, they actually help me with my plan,” Chiles, 23, recently told the Associated Press. “That's really how I make sure I don't break a nail.”
While Chiles has accidentally hit a nail during a meeting on one occasion, naturally, acrylics usually remain embedded in her fingers.
“One broke in half and started bleeding, [but] most of the time, my nails tend to be this long even when I have a long period,” added Chiles, showing a glimpse of her hair. “My coach got mad at me one time, so I had to slow them down.”
He added, “But, yes, I can do gymnastics with my nails. It's like, you know, people always have to touch one little bit of who they are within their sport? My nails.”
Chiles will represent Team USA in the Olympic gymnastics events with his teammates Simone Biles, Jade Carey, Suni Lee again Hezly Rivera. Before the games start on Friday, July 26, Chiles talked to them Us Weekly about his other virtues that he should have.
“My eyebrows have to be done regularly,” said the two-time Olympian Us in May. “You know, when people always say that a purse is their go-to product? So when it comes to my makeup, my eyebrows are like that finishing product and having Got2B Glued, eyebrow gel is the best thing a girl could ask for.”
Chiles has her own pre-competition beauty routine, but will be wearing the same GK Elite leotards as her teammates. This year's dress comes in blue with red, white and green rhinestones covering the bodice and sleeves. At Friday's Opening Ceremony, gymnasts will find the twins and other Team USA athletes in Ralph Lauren ensembles.
